Bharanikkavu Block Panchayat is situated in the southeastern part of Alappuzha District, in Mavelikkara Taluk. It is bounded by Kollam District on the southern side and Pathanamthitta District on the eastern side.
The Block Panchayat is located on both sides of the Kayamkulam–Punalur State Highway, which passes through Charummoodu, the headquarters of the Block Panchayat, covering the stretch of road from approximately 4 km to 22 km.
The following six Gram Panchayats come under the jurisdiction of Bharanikkavu Block Panchayat:

- Palamel
- Mavelikkara–Thamarakkulam
- Vallikunnam
The Block Panchayat comprises 7 Revenue Villages, namely:

- Thamarakkulam
It also includes 116 Gram Panchayat Wards and 3 District Panchayat Divisions, namely Nooranad, Bharanikkavu, and Krishnapuram.
In addition, the Block Panchayat forms part of the Kayamkulam and Mavelikkara Assembly Constituencies and the Mavelikkara and Alappuzha Parliamentary Constituencies.
